About us

We

The Elisabeth Sisters

Carrying the God of love within,
to serve selflessly.

 The Foundation

The future begins with education -
together we strive towards a common goal

The association supports the work of the Elisabeth Sisters in Freiburg and India.

The tasks of the association focus on the financial, logistical and advisory support of concrete projects. We support and promote these projects at home and abroad in the form of meetings, educational opportunities and lectures. With your membership you help to continuously promote the work of the sisters.

The collection of donations and subsidies are an important part of our work - we need your help to make good things happen!

One of the focal points of the work of the Elizabeth Sisters is the promotion of the upbringing and education of primarily disadvantaged children and families in India and Germany.

They also provide care and nursing for the sick and elderly.

Both positions contribute to your goal of improving national and international cooperation to alleviate and prevent social emergencies in India and Germany.

The sisters work in communities, schools, hospitals, in villages and cities of India in a variety of professions. Together they can provide sustainable help and support those who need it most.

OUR STORY

1925

Th founding of the association for the Elisabeth Sisters

On the 23rd of July 2011 a new and important chapter of the Freiburg Elisabeth Sisters began with the foundation of a support association.  Founded in 1925 by Mathilde Otto, the order built a maternity home from 1929 onwards, from which St. Elisabeth Hospital developed. With more than 55,000 births, the Elisabeth Hospital was the Freiburg institution for obstetrics and gynaecology for decades.

...to India...

How the first projects in India came about

The Elisabeth Sisters' community on Dreisamstrasse in Freiburg has long since begun to bear fruit: In the course of the past decades, more and more Indian sisters have been accepted into the congregation. In the meantime, the Elisabeth Sisters run social facilities at 17 locations in several Indian states. Among them is a school with over 3,000 pupils in Guna. It is an exemplary school which is open to pupils of all religions and castes.

Vision

Where does the association of the Elizabeth Sisters see itself in the future?

The aim of the association is to win as many members and sponsors as possible to build more schools in India and thus to spread education and Christian values. We want to grow in order to be able to continue supporting our sisters and brothers.

We dream of more opportunities for more children!  We dream of equal chances to lead a fulfilled life!

Values

"Carrying the God of love within,

to serve selflessly."

This was the motto of Mathilde Otto, the founder of the order. The sisters also carry an indescribable love in their hearts and give up their lives for others.

We, the members of the support association, can learn a lot from the sisters in this respect and always try to keep to a very important commandment:

"Love thy neighbour as thyself." - no matter what background, ethnicity, sexuality or religion.
